Hello everyone.
Firstly, thanks for taking your time to read my blog. This is the journey of Coach B, from where it all started to where it is going. The hard work it takes, the determination needed to achieve what I want and never give up attitude that I got to have to ensure that all negativity be pushed aside.
I am hoping that this blog will also show the young talent out there that football is not only about been a professional football player but there is so much more that you could be part of and I am hoping this journey leads me to one day stepping out as a Coach of a professional team.
This journey will be documented along the way, every step and how it will be taken will be found here.
So the question on everyone lips is,
Why Mourinho out of all the football managers in the world?
I am a huge Manchester United fan but this is not the reason why, there is more to this name Mourinho than which team he currently managers.
Mourinho is a Portuguese football manager, who has enjoyed plenty success in many different countries, dating back to 2002 with FC Porto. But this is not a history lesson about one of the most exciting managers in the football scene; it’s about what makes this manager so special to me.
Mourinho caught my eye while he was at Chelsea Football Club in 2004, he had labelled himself the "Special One" as he had just won the European Champions League with FC Porto which also had given Benni McCarthy (South African born striker) his UEFA Champions League Medal (The only South African to actually have a UEFA Champions League medal by the way).
Mourinho's confidence, some would call it arrogance but I saw it as CONFIDENCE. He believed in his ability despite what anyone would say. I admired this guy for his attitude to what he was doing and no matter what he said he ensured he completed the task. In his first season at Chelsea after been called arrogant, he secured the league cup and won the Premier League title despite all the negativity around him. I would sit and watch all his post-match interviews as they were always entertaining but I admired the way he carried himself and how his confidence was just soaking out of him. From then Mourinho was labelled as the greatest manager in my eyes, besides the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson.
I began coaching in 2009, at Carter High School in Pietermaritzburg; I coached my first team which was Carter High School U15 team and we had the success of completing the season unbeaten, this is when I realized that coaching could also be a possibility as I enjoyed it, it felt good being able to guide youngsters to be better players than what they were yesterday.
My passion is Football and to be a part of it in anyway was always my goal. I was a player as well that could play any position on the field but all that came to an end when I tore a ligament in my ankle that I never recovered from, that is when I took coaching serious and began to label myself “Mourinho” but I was a different “Mourinho” the humble and down to earth type, the one that takes credit for nothing and does not boast but I wanted Mourinho Tactical ability and what he brings to the game.
Will I ever be as tactically sound as the great “Jose’ Mourinho”?
Well let’s follow my journey and see where it leads me.
Hope you now have a brief understanding as to “Why Mourinho?”
